You picked it! Our Audience Choice show for 2019 is The Art of the @!#?!ing Insult!

When you think of opera do you think of sweet, demure, dainty characters?

We don’t sing that kind of opera!

We like the clever ones who can tell each other off without losing their charm – and we’ve got our popcorn ready for when they go off after getting insulted!

Let’s get down and dirty!

Here are some insults for our upcoming show! CANCELED: OOT DC Metro presents Singers’ Choice!

We are very sorry to say that in order to exercise caution, we are canceling our show that had been scheduled for next Friday, March 20th at The Wonderland Ballroom. We want to do our part to ensure that our audience, performers, and the staff at Wonderland stay healthy.

We are still planning to hold our April show (April 17th!) for now, though we will certainly evaluate that as needed. In the meantime, please enjoy some of your favorite recordings at home, and we send healthy wishes to you all!

Opera on Tap at Syntax: Physic Opera – Super-Pants!

Saturday, April 6, 2019
6:00PM
Syntax: Physic Opera
554 South Broadway, Denver, CO
Tickets: $8 advance and students/$10 day of show

Although not unique to opera, the pants role – women playing male characters – is a device common in works including Mozart’s Nozze di Figaro to Gounod’s Romeo et Juliette and Strauss’ Rosekavalier.

While intended to better depict young men, we all know who is wearing the pants here.

Let’s celebrate the girls who play boys who love girls!
