Opportunity Information

Opera on Tap Seattle casts per monthly show, usually 1 month to 2 weeks out. We like to have a database of singers to reach out to throughout the season. Being on the Opera on Tap Seattle roster does not necessarily mean you will be asked to be on an Opera on Tap show. Each show is cast on an as-needed basis to fit the theme.

Program Information

What’s Opera on Tap?

Opera on Tap is the largest network of operatic performing artists in the country.  We take a local, grassroots and VERY fun approach to community outreach in the name of our art form.

Where do we perform?

Anywhere people will let us…mostly bars.  But not really so much in concert halls and opera houses.

So… why?

We love our communities and want to perform for them.  We want to see our art form that we have committed our lives to crafting continue to exist in the near and far future.  We want to provide more performance opportunities to the thousands of young opera artists throughout the country who have an amazing gift they want to share. We want to foster and develop the artistic entrepreneurial spirit.  We want to find those people out there, that have never heard an opera, never sat inside of a concert hall, are intimidated by the mere mention of opera, think its only for rich white people- and then we want to sing for them and blow their minds.

Compensation

Opera On Tap Seattle pays a $30 stipend, plus drink ticket. Singers must be in the Seattle/Tacoma area. No housing or travel is provided.

Many many thanks to our home base, Freddy’s, for continuing to support our work!

Past events:

Watch highlights from this year’s Playground Opera: Elixir of Love!

Every June, we at Opera on Tap collaborate with the 3rd grade classes at Harlem’s PS 129 to create a professional production of an opera on their schoolyard playground. This year it was Elixir of Love. The focus, passion, and excitement these students brought to the opera has been so incredibly uplifting and emotional for all of us.

We couldn’t be more pleased with the artistry and love that shines forth through this program and we are excited to expand the program next year to include all the 4th grade classes at PS 129 and bring the program to one more NYC public school’s group of 3rd graders in the Spring 2018 season.

Opera On Tap has arrived in Pittsburgh! This international group of musicians and entertainers has been growing across the country with 20 chapters in the US, and the newest one here in Pittsburgh. We are in the process of planning our upcoming events.

We’ll challenge your perception of opera.  Ever been to the Met?  How about to La Scala?  This definitely isn’t that.  This is intimate and personal.  Never even considered going to the opera because it’s stuffy, boring, unintelligible?  This isn’t that either.  Let us set your senses on fire.

This Evening’s Performers:

Denise Crawfort
Soprano

From stomping through streams and forests,
to climbing mountains, Denise’s early days
were far from glitter and gaiety, but the
bright lights of the big city soon drew her in.
She came down from her cabin in the woods
to explore the sounds of the concrete jungle
accompanied by her beast named Flash.
Together they now take on the world one
park at a time, making their mark across
the city as they go and using their outdoor
skills to survive the wilds of the MTA.

Rachel Duval
Soprano
RachelDuval.com

Rachel, acclaimed heavyweight champion,
has won numerous international lifting
competitions across America. When not
blasting out face melting soprano riffs,
Rachel can be found taking selfies at the
gym in obnoxious lighting.  She is also
the mother of six children: LudVig,
Wolfffie, Giacomo, Giuseppe, Andrew
Floyd Weber, and A-Rod Junior.

Brooke Larimer
Mezzo-Soprano
Brookelarimer.com

Brooke Larimer discovered her singing
talents while tipping a particularly heavy
cow in her home state of Vermont.
Originally a coloratura soprano, she found
that the witchy mezzo roles were a much
better fit for her thinly-veiled rage issues.
During the few brief waking hours that
Brooke is not singing each day, she can
be found sweating it out in Bikram classes,
sipping coconut water while eating yummy
vegan, gluten- and soy-free snacks, or
shopping for environmentally sustainable,
100% hemp ball-gowns for her international
concert tour.

Luke van Meveren
Baritone

Luke van Meveren is a person from
a place. He was last seen eating some
sketchy looking bodega food on the
street corner. Future engagements
include leftover split pea soup, a
shameless seamless order, and some
imminent binge eating of ben and jerry’s
(chubby hubby variety.) If you happened
to have some trail mix or maybe some
beef jerky he would be very appreciative
of the support.

Blake Burroughs
Bass-Baritone

Blake Burroughs is too sexy for his car,
his shirt, his cat, his hat, and this bio.

Blake’s facebook fanpage

Eric Sedgwick
Pianist

Eric may or may not be a secret agent.
Or possibly a superhero.
We’re not sure, but he seems to be able
to be in 9 places at once and we have a
hunch he may have more than two arms.
