Patricia Leonard

Patricia Leonard is a composer of opera and musical theater; her
musical education includes the Boston Conservatory and The
Juilliard School. Her principal composition teacher is Pulitzer
Prize-winning composer David Del Tredici. Patricia’s opera “My
Dearest Friend” based on the letters of John and Abigail Adams
has gained wide recognition, and she is the recipient of
distinguished awards from Opera America, Virginia B. Toulmin
Prize, The Music Performance Trust Fund and The American
Prize. As an active composer with a variety of music groups,
Patricia is a founding member of New York Composers Circle.
She is also an advocate for women in music and is involved with
many woman-led organizations, including Maestra, International
Alliance of Women in Music and as a Board member of New York
Women Composers. Patricia enjoys working in philanthropy,
particularly in the performing arts sector, to include relationships
with Lincoln Center and Broadway where she has helped secure
lead funding for new operas and plays to get professionally
produced.
